SASE for Australian Logistics

About the Customer
This organisation stands as a cornerstone of Australia's import and export landscape. As one of Australia’s largest integrated providers of logistics services, they command a market capitalisation of over AUD$5 billion. Their operational footprint is vast, encompassing over 200 locations throughout Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia. This network supports a workforce of more than 12,000 employees, many of whom operate in remote locations, thousands of kilometres from major urban centres. Their commitment to connecting businesses and facilitating trade is evident in their extensive reach and dedication to serving even the most distant corners of the country.

The Challenge: Navigating the SOCI Act
In 2018, the Australian Federal Government enacted the "Security of Critical Infrastructure Act" (SOCI Act), legislation designed to safeguard the nation's essential services and infrastructure. This act recognizes the critical interdependence of various sectors and the potential for disruptions to cause cascading effects across the economy, society, and national security. The SOCI Act mandates robust security measures across 11 key sectors, including logistics, which plays a vital role in Australia's supply chains and economic stability.

As a major player in the logistics sector, it was recognised the importance to comply fully with the SOCI Act. Under the leadership of the Head of Technology – Information Security, they had already made significant strides in strengthening their security posture. However, a critical piece of the puzzle remained: establishing a comprehensive and unified approach to internet filtering and cyber protection. This solution needed to be location-agnostic, effectively securing employees whether they were working in the office, remotely from home, or in the field.

NBULA and Zscaler: A Partnership for Security
To address this challenge, the customer selected Zscaler’s ZIA suite. NBULA Networks were entrusted with the crucial task of designing and implementing the chosen security framework. This deployment would encompass over 2500 users spread across Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, and Singapore.

The Outcome: A Seamless Transition and Enhanced Security
NBULA embarked on a collaborative journey, working closely with various teams to understand their unique operational requirements and security concerns. This collaborative approach ensured that the solution would seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure and workflows. NBULA successfully migrated all 2500 users from their legacy on-premise Palo Alto based solution to the cloud-based Zscaler ZIA platform. This transition provided the customer with a more agile, scalable, and robust security framework, capable of adapting to the evolving threat landscape.

NBULA went beyond implementation, providing comprehensive handover, troubleshooting and training to empower internal IT teams. This knowledge transfer ensured that the internal teams had the expertise and resources to effectively manage and optimize their new security infrastructure.
